Michael Torres, Partner

 

Michael specializes in planning/land use (helping private and public parties develop, redevelop, and modify their property), government relations (helping private and public parties work with the government to obtain permits, approvals and process applications), real estate, and all areas of coastal development/tidelands (working with the California Coastal Commission, State Lands Commission, and local jurisdictions).


Michael spent almost a decade working as a city attorney with the City of Newport Beach, where he specialized in government and land use law serving as the staff attorney to the Newport Beach Planning Commission.  Michael also worked as an attorney at the law firm of Best, Best & Krieger, LLP, where he represented cities, special districts, and private businesses throughout Southern California.  Michael has also served as senior in-house counsel for a national telecommunications company, where he specialized in telecommunication real estate leasing.


Michael represents public and private clients before elected and appointed administrative bodies, hearing officers, civil and criminal courts, the California Coastal Commission, and the State Lands Commission.


Prior to law school, Michael served as a Field Representative to a member of the California Assembly, where he represented the Assembly member at various events throughout the community. Michael received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Notre Dame Law School and his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from UCLA.  Michael is an active member of his community and serves on local boards.
